Historical Origins: An 8,000-Year Civilization, Reimagined*
Hemp has been rooted in the lands of China for over 8,000 years. Not only was it revered as a medicinal herb by Shennong (hemp seeds, known as huŏ má rén, remain a common ingredient in the herbal teas we drink in Hong Kong today), but its strong bast fibers also supported ancient industries—from weaving cloth and making ropes to crafting tools, its presence was everywhere. Today, we are reinventing this "steel of the plant world," creating footwear that carries historical depth while meeting contemporary needs.

BAREFOOT SHOES DESIGNED BY BAREFOOT RUNNERS
12 years ago, conventional footwear may have been the cause that left our mom’s injury and ended her running’s passion. That pain ignited our journey into barefoot running, experiencing the wisdom of our ancestors who ran in sandals—like Mexico’s Tarahumara huarache sandals and straw sandals from Asian culture. Both have been worn for millennia without restricting the freedom of our feet.
HEMP - FROM HERBAL TEA TO BAREFOOT SNEAKERS
TAO to Freedom was inspired by the ancient wisdom of using natural plant fiber reinterpreted in modern sneaker style, bringing us to a new barefoot shoes experience - minimize the use of plastic. Wrapping our feet with the same plant that heals us inside our herbal tea that we have long been using in our culture - Hemp - the world’s strongest plant fiber.
Like sipping herbal tea that heals from the inside out, TAO to Freedom nurtures from the outside in: flexible soles, wide toe boxes, and a connection to the Earth.
Step into the plant our culture has always trusted.
BAREFOOT, NATURAL, AESTHETIC—who said we can’t have it all?
